Abstract
In order to raise mental well-being for the elderly, this study was aimed to identify the relationships among gratitude disposition, relational satisfaction, and mental well-being and to investigate the moderation effect of perceived burdensomeness in these relationships. For the purpose, we used the data of 440 people aged over 65 in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Daejeon and Daegu and conducted structural equation modeling analysis. Then, from the groups in high/low 25% in the variable of perceived burdensomeness, a multiple-group analysis was performed. The results indicated that gratitude disposition predicted relational satisfaction and mental well-being both in the high/low perceived burdensomeness group, but relational satisfaction predicted mental well-being only in the high perceived burdensomeness group. Mediation effect of relational satisfaction between gratitude disposition and mental well-being was statistically significant only in the high perceived burdensomeness group too. The implications based on these results were discussed to raise mental well-being for the elderly.
